Stormwater Ponds

Stormwater runoff is rainwater that flows over land and is carried through drainage systems into nearby creeks, lakes, and wetlands. In urban areas, surfaces such as roads, driveways, sidewalks, patios, and roofs prevent water from soaking into the ground. These hard surfaces increase the amount of stormwater runoff that enters local waterways.

Stormwater ponds are designed to help manage this runoff by temporarily holding and slowly releasing water. They also help reduce flooding, prevent erosion, and protect the health of nearby watercourses and aquatic life.

For safety and environmental protection, swimming, wading, skating, and boating are not permitted in stormwater ponds.

Use caution around stormwater ponds. Conditions can change quickly, including fluctuating water levels and thin or unstable ice during the winter months.
