Ontario Provincial Police Detachment Boards
The Russell County and Hawkesbury OPP Detachment Boards work with their respective Detachment Commanders in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act to support effective and accountable policing across our communities. The Boards establish objectives and priorities, monitor performance, review reports, and provide advice and annual reports to Municipal Councils to help enhance public safety and quality of life. Each Board operates within its legislated authority, adheres to a prescribed Code of Conduct, and ensures its communications and decisions align with approved policies and budgets.
The Nation Public Library Board
A Public Library Board is a governing board and a legal corporation under the Public Libraries Act, responsible for the management and control of the public library, including overseeing operations and establishing related policies.
The Board provides strategic oversight by developing and approving policies and a strategic plan that respond to community needs, reviewing and approving the library’s annual budget for submission to Council, and hiring and evaluating the Library CEO. It also ensures strong governance and accountability by aligning operations with board priorities and applicable legislation, overseeing financial performance and strategic goals, monitoring progress toward the library’s mission, and carrying out its responsibilities under the Public Libraries Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.44.
Committee of Adjustment
The powers of the Committee of Adjustment are set out in Section 45 of the Planning Act (R.S.O. 1990, c. P.13). Under this section, a property owner may apply to the Committee of Adjustment for relief from certain zoning by-law requirements passed under Sections 34 or 38 of the Act.
The Committee has the authority to approve a minor variance, which is a small change to the zoning by-law, if it believes the change is reasonable and appropriate for the development or use of the land, building, or structure. However, the Committee can only approve the variance if it is satisfied that the general intent and purpose of the zoning by-law and the Official Plan are maintained.
Accessibility Advisory Committee
The establishment of the Accessibility Advisory Committee is a statutory requirement under Section 29(1) of the Accessibility for Ontarian with Disability Act (“The Act”).
The Accessibility Advisory Committee provides advice to Council on how to meet and apply accessibility standards in the community. This includes helping with accessibility planning, reviewing accessibility reports, and offering guidance on any other accessibility matters that Council requests.
Culture and Heritage Advisory Committee
The Heritage and Culture Advisory Committee of The Nation Municipality represents the community and serves as a coordinating body for the inventory of buildings, sites, and landmarks with heritage value throughout the municipality.
