Understand your Tax Bill

Due Dates

Property taxes are billed twice a year. The interim bill is based on 50% of the previous year’s taxes and is payable in two installments due at the end of March and May. The final tax bill is based on the current year’s tax rates and reflects the remaining balance after the interim bill has been applied.

Payments are due in four installments on the last business day of March, May, August, and October.

Property Assessment

The value of your property, referred to as your assessment or assessed value, is determined by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), an independent, not-for-profit corporation funded by all Ontario municipalities.

Rates and Charges

Property taxes are calculated by multiplying the assessed value of your property, by the tax rates set by the Municipality, the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, and the Province of Ontario for education.
