Summary

The Public Library Board is a governing board and a legal corporation under the Public Libraries Act, responsible for the management and control of the public library, including overseeing operations and establishing related policies.

The Board provides strategic oversight by developing and approving policies and a strategic plan that respond to community needs, reviewing and approving the library’s annual budget for submission to Council, and hiring and evaluating the Library CEO. It also ensures strong governance and accountability by aligning operations with board priorities and applicable legislation, overseeing financial performance and strategic goals, monitoring progress toward the library’s mission, and carrying out its responsibilities under the Public Libraries Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.44.
