The Municipality is undertaking a review of its fire service delivery to better understand current service needs and identify opportunities for the future.
Why is this review being conducted?
The Municipality needs to be confident that its approach to delivering fire services supports safe and effective emergency response for residents and firefighters.
Challenges related to staffing, recruitment and operations, along with evolving requirements and training standards, have led the Municipality to examine whether the current model for delivering fire services can meet the community’s needs now and into the future.
What is being reviewed?
The review will examine how fire protection services are currently delivered and identify opportunities to strengthen emergency response while maintaining an appropriate standard of service for residents.
As part of the review, the Administration will evaluate a range of service delivery models, considering how each supports resident and firefighter safety, emergency response effectiveness, service reliability and long-term sustainability.
The review will also consider factors such as staffing levels, firefighter availability, operational requirements, response capabilities, service demand and asset utilization.
Review Process
- Phase 1 – Review Initiated
The Municipality has identified several challenges affecting the delivery of fire protection services and is examining how emergency response could be adapted to meet current and future needs. - Phase 2 – Development of Service Delivery Models
The Administration will evaluate potential service delivery models and assess how each option addresses identified challenges, supports emergency response, and contributes to the long-term sustainability of fire services. - Phase 3 – Community Feedback
Community members will have an opportunity to provide feedback before recommendations are finalized. - Phase 4 – Report & Council Consideration
The Administration will present its findings, community feedback results, and recommended course of action to Council. - Phase 5 – Implementation
Pending Council decisions, the Municipality will communicate implementation timelines, key milestones, and updates throughout the transition process.
