Summary

Under the supervision of the Water and Wastewater Manager, the student will support water and wastewater department, as well as landfill sites, in various operational and maintenance tasks. Under the supervision of operations staff, the student will assist with the maintenance of municipal infrastructure, and support operators in becoming familiar with the operation of drinking water and wastewater treatment systems.

Main Responsibilities

  • Greet residents at the landfill site in a friendly manner and inform them about accepted materials and existing recycling programs; 
  • Support material separation and the implementation of the recycling program in accordance with municipal regulations; 
  • Assist the team with general maintenance of drinking water and wastewater facilities (outdoor work, grass cutting, cleaning, painting fire hydrants); 
  • Assist operators with simple and safe tasks such as basic inspections, inventory tracking, tool organization, and equipment preparation; 
  • Follow health and safety procedures at all times, and contribute to maintaining a clean and safe work environment; 
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Experience: No requirements.
Specific Knowledge: Ability to communicate verbally in both French and English.

Skills and Abilities

  • Customer service skills and ability to interact courteously with residents; 
  • Ability to perform physical outdoor work, such as grass cutting, painting, cleaning, and light handling;
  • Ability to use or willingness to learn to use small equipment (tractor with Bush Hog, string trimmer, hand tools); 
  • Observational skills and ability to follow detailed instructions; 
  • Ability to work safely and comply with workplace health and safety procedures; 
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the team;
  • Professional attitude, punctuality, and willingness to learn about drinking water and wastewater systems;
  • Valid driver’s license (Class G or G2), an asset depending on travel requirements.

Working Conditions

Physical Effort and Environment:

  • Ability to perform physical outdoor work, including walking, tool use, light to moderate lifting, and working in various weather conditions;
  • Exposure to unpleasant odours, waste materials, and hazardous substances (with PPE and training provided).

Equipment and Machinery:

  • Kubota tractor with power take-off (PTO) and Bush Hog, trimmer (weed eater), grinder, generator, and various light tools.

Work Hours: 40 to 42 hours per week (Tuesday to Saturday)
Period: May to September
Pay Rate: $22.89/hour
Work Location: Limoges and Fournier (The Nation Municipality)
Start Date: May 4, 2026 (depending on end of school term)
