PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT MARC LEGAULT, Director of Public Works marclegault@nationmun.ca Photo album of the reconstruction of the St. Bernardin Bridge. The Public Works Department is divided into three sectors;
The Nation maintains approximately 500 km of roads, 14 km of sidewalks, 18 km of storm sewers, 450 street lights and 40 bridges that cross rivers and drains.
The work done from March to July includes the maintenance of paved roads and shoulders. The spreading of gravel and calcium for the dust-layer is usually done at the beginning of summer, and also, any ditching needed is performed during this season. The roadsides are mowed once a year. The Road Department and the Satellite Office are closed the two last weeks of July to allow the employees to take their vacation. Construction projects are scheduled in August to be completed at the end of October. The rest of the year employees are busy removing the snow and spreading sand and salt in order to keep the roads clean and safe. When not otherwise occupied, the employees of the Road Department clear the brush and trim the trees along the side of the roads if needed. Any person wishing to report any anomalies such as defective street lights, large pot holes and dead animals on the road, may call 613-764-5444 or 1-800-475-2855 for the sector of Casselman from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and 613-524-2932 for the sectors of Fournier and St. Bernardin from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
