GARBAGE AND RECYCLING - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

MIKE’S WASTE DISPOSAL INC. performs the waste collection service for The Nation Municipality.
Garbage and recycling are both picked up at the same time in a specially designed split box truck.

STATUTORY HOLIDAYS

There will be pick-up on all Statutory Holidays with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

TWO BAG PER WEEK LIMIT PER PROPERTY

By-Law 75-2002, as amended, implements, among other things, a TWO BAG LIMIT PER PROPERTY PER WEEK.   If you wish to dispose of more than two bags per week, then bag tags may be purchased at a cost of 10 for $10.00 or 25 for $20.00.  THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS- THE TWO BAG LIMIT IS STRICTLY ENFORCED.

Maximum size of garbage bags shall not exceed 30” x 38”.  Smaller bags should be placed in a garbage can or bag.

GARBAGE AND RECYCLING SHALL BE PLACED AT THE CURBSIDE BY 7:00 A.M. ON THE DAY OF COLLECTION.
If it has not been picked up on your regular day, please contact the municipal office immediately or the next day.

LANDFILL SITES

ONLY DRY waste may be taken to the waste disposal sites.  Residents may bring two loads per year to the waste disposal sites at no charge with some exceptions such as tires, appliances and demolition waste.

Compostable waste, such as leaves, grass clippings and branches are not acceptable for curbside pick-up.  These can be taken to the waste disposal site at no cost.  We strongly encourage homeowners and residents to recycle and compost in order to reduce the amounts going to landfill.

TIPPING FEES are charged for certain items.  Please contact the municipal web site, the municipal offices or the waste site custodian for the applicable fee.

RECYCLING & BLUE BOXES

It is not necessary to sort your blue box materials- this is done at the plant.  Blue boxes can be obtained at the municipal offices.  The first for new construction is free and all others can be purchased at a cost of $8.00.  WE ADVISE RESIDENTS TO PUT THEIR NAME ON THEIR BLUE BOX
There is no limit to the amount of recycling that can be placed at the curb.

The goal for recycling in Ontario is 60% diversion.  The Nation Municipality is at 63% recovered materials- SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF!  By increasing the amounts recycled, our program has exceeded the 60% goal.  Check the list of recyclable materials on the right-  IS THERE SOMETHING YOU HAVE BEEN MISSING?

TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!
