Municipal Law Enforcement Officers are appointed by Council under the provisions of the Police Services Act and various other Provincial Statutes to enforce local municipal by-laws and some Provincial Statutes.

Duties include:

  • Enforcing dog licencing
  • Responding to complaints of nuisance dogs barking or running at large
  • Impounding dogs
  • Issuing and enforcing Refreshment Vehicle Licences
  • Issuing and enforcing Transient Trader Licences
  • Issuing and enforcing Fire Permits
  • Issuing and enforcing Sign Permits
  • Valuing damages to livestock that have been killed or injured by dogs, wolves or coyotes
  • Enforcing handicapped and other parking restrictions
  • Issuing Lottery Licences
  • Enforcing Property Standards to clear yards of inoperative vehicles, debris and long grass
  • Enforcing noise restrictions
  • Enforcing the Zoning By-Law
  • Investigating cases of littering
